Geography of Oklahoma Syllabus

Course Introduction

As a citizen of the state of Oklahoma, it is extremely important for you to know the history and cultures that live here. This course has been designed to show you these wonderful features of our state. We will explore the geography of the state and show the incredibly rich and complex history from prehistoric tribes that inhabited Oklahoma prior to European contact through Indian removal to Oklahoma to modern statehood. Our focus will be on the geographic formations within the state, weather and climate patterns and our transportation systems.

Course Format

The course will be centered on the use of our atlas textbook. Due to the design of the class, you should come to class prepared to engage in discussions and listen to materials presented by both the instructor and other students. We will be using exams, presentations and projects to evaluate the instruction of the material. Maps and mapping materials will be provided as needed.

 Grades

This course will give you several opportunities to show your developing knowledge in the subject. An important key for showing that development is success on the exams. Our exams will consist of sections, covering different areas of the discipline. This course will have a variety of activities to further drive our studies. Projects and class presentations will be assigned as supplements to certain content. Additionally, we will be mapping locations within our state and test our knowledge of various items such as counties and cities.

 Office Hours and Contact Information

I am aware of my responsibilities as your teacher and will actively pursue a professional approach towards all of my students. I intend to provide open office hours in the classroom both prior to and/or after school. I will provide those times on the board the beginning of the week. I will also be able to respond to your questions via phone during appropriate times on both evenings and weekends. Also, you may contact me via our school e-mail. This is especially a good means of communication on the breaks during the semester. Parents are overwhelmingly encouraged to contact me with any questions they may have.
